MATCH REPORT BY : Cods

It was a blustery Saturday morning in the midst of the South London suburbs where the ladies 2s played their second to last match of the season against Croydon.

We had a well fielded team with 14 which gave us the leg power we missed from the previous week.

The first few minutes set the tone of the game with great passing, energy and attacking play, lots of strikes on goal but sadly not on target. As coach said better to have strikes versus none !
Our first goal was from a beautiful set play (well it must have looked like that to Croydon) where Sienna did an amazing sprint dummy to receive a pass from a long corner, dribbled into the D and then made a cross which Becca received and did a super sweep, converting our first goal.
Play was back and forth with continued pressure at either end, strong tackling and close marking thanks to our backs in our defending half. Hayley even had a few touches and we did concede a couple of short corners but battled well.

At half time the score was 1-0 to us which was not a reflection of play, but we kept our calm as we went out to play the second half. I must say it could have been the exceptional sweets from Bows junior that gave us that extra edge !

After some short first time passes we saw us attacking again and Helen managed to score off the right post with a super deflection from Talia's shot on goal.

It was as if the magic had finally come together as soon after Talia was battling up the right hand side, weaving past the oppo before sending a super pass into the D which Amy scored with a first touch strike on goal !

Croydon continued their pressure and won further short corners but our defence was strong even if the umpiring was ropey, particularly when a short corner was played before the defence was ready !
It was lovely to see Bows junior playing and battling well in defence and moving up the pitch to make attacking play.
Madison was our last goal scorer where after some frustrating misses she did a super first touch strike on goal !!!

Coach and our supporters were joyous !
What can I say but simply an awesome game played with energy, confidence and a spark of something we have lacked in recent games !! Let’s take this mindset into next week team !!
