Louise Newlands

1 - 1 Draw

MATCH REPORT BY : Holly (paid for by Hayley)

All the valley team rocks up to the pitch side right on time ready for a great battle, confidence was definitely in the air for the ladies.
Finally after what felt like years of waiting for the men to finish we scrambled onto the pitch.

First half we begin pressing hard up into the Camberley half, passes were accurate and legs were fresh. We had Madison, Holly and Helen up front with Eleanor on the side ready to get on the pitch as soon as opportunity came.
Sally, Jas and Maryanne in the mid and Lou, Carmen, Jane, Tamzin and Kayla guarding our goal as well as the unforgettable unstoppable wall Hayley being our final and very powerful force right at the back.
However for majority of the first half we were questioning if she wanted a cup of tea and an arm chair with the lack of work she actually had to do. Camberley were strong but we were definitely stronger with all our pushing and fighting and with our stand in coach, Rich, keeping the fresh legs flowing from the sidelines, we finished the first half 0-0.
After a great half time talk from Rich and feedback from umpire Dolan (senior) we all made our way back onto the pitch. Again valley started with a bang putting all our effort into storming up into the Camberley half. Then it got exciting as a Camberley player was running up to retrieve a ball which had escaped her grasp with Holly and Maryanne chasing behind her when she fell over her own legs. Holly quickly retrieved the ball passing it off to Maryanne who charged down the left wing dribbling it into the D where she also tripped over her own feet leaving the ball trailing into the middle of the D where Maddie saw her opportunity and, after grabbing the ball In a scuffle with a defender, pushed it straight through the goalies legs. She let out a yell of excitement celebrating our well earned goal. Waiting for Camberley to reset the game they instead Insisted the goal should be disallowed as their player falling over interrupted play. With a solid NO from the umpires the game restarted.
Camberley were pushing even harder now pressing us hard. We had a couple of scares including one which involved a very angry Hayley screaming “GET OUT MY WAY” and proceeding to barge out of her way a very shocked Jane. Valley again had a another chance at a goal when we received another short corner which was injected to Jas who laid it back to the post where Holly shot it into the goal where it was lifted and came back down onto a defenders foot on the line which it then rolled back out into the D. Luckily the umpires saw and awarded valley a penalty flick which a brave Sally stepped up to take. Unfortunately we believe she did have a hole in her stick (not her fault) and missed the flick. Camberley then seized opportunity and scored their goal leaving us disappointed and feisty to get another. We did not however succeed and both teams had a scrappy last few minutes until the final whistle blew. 1-1.
Thank you to the umpires Helen and Brian, To Lou for teas and to Step in coach Rich for keeping our legs fresh from the side.
MOM: Carmen
WOW: Maryanne for falling over
