Match Report V Guildford 6s

Kat Ricoux9 Feb - 15:45

1-0 win

After getting soaked at Thursday night training, it was no surprise that just as we warmed up on match day, the heavens opened again drenching us all. Thankfully the rain eased for the game!! We started with passion and strong confident play from the back and great movement through the centre. Kat and Lilly linked up beautifully as always, while Emily and Maddie applied relentless pressure up front. Harri was an absolute menace in the middle, chasing everything down and giving Guildford no time or space.
It took a little while to fully settle, but once we did, we took our chance. A slightly questionable but perfectly timed baseline pass from Madison found Emily at the top of the D, who smashed it goalward to secure what would be the winning goal. Whether it was an own goal or not… we’ll let Emily enjoy her final-game goal ?. Guildford quickly responded, breaking through the middle while we briefly lost our shape, and a deflection off Naomi sent the ball into our net—but huge relief as the shot came from outside the D. No goal, and lesson learned: don’t celebrate too early!
After halftime (fuelled by sweets and more rain), we came back with fire. The defence was outstanding—communicating constantly, shifting as a unit, and protecting Liz from the balls she absolutely does not want to see. The midfield worked tirelessly: Jade’s vision and precision were spot on, Helen controlled the middle with smart triangle passes, and Kat was unstoppable on the right, feeding balls forward all game. Mon , Lottie , Holly and Naomi were like a force to be reckoned with creating an unstoppable wall in the defence! Up front, the pressure never stopped, and in the final 20 minutes Lottie turned it up another level with huge runs, brilliant aerials, and top-class distribution. Lilly battled hard, using strength and skill to drive the ball into the D.
Despite our best efforts, we couldn’t find a second goal—but after a gritty, hard-fought battle, we secured a 1–0 win.
Player of the Match: Lottie – for her vision, work rate, and determination
Wally of the Week: Mon – who spent an impressive amount of time not on her feet ?
