After a bit of a traffic getting to Purley and silly vans trying to jump the queue we were all raring and ready to go on the wet and windy pitch.
We were strong and had the pace on them in general, but the first 20 minutes at least were 50-50 up and down. We were missing Helen with her shoulder injury but she did some great chauffeuring, timing, subbing and team talk at halftime. Jade filled in top D and Sienna left mid and the play started quite nicely.
We couldn’t seem to take a clear shot on goal until newly subbed Lola came on and after some lovely passing through Emily and Harriet, Lola got the ball left of the D and whacked it in for a 1-0 lead. Halftime quickly came.
Good positive team talk from Helen and Kat and back out to play simple passes use it and keep battling. This is what we did and quite soon was the most beautiful goal of the day when the ball came from the back, passed wonderfully up the pitch for Harriet to slot in for goal number two.
Monique was slip siding all over the place with her roller boots on (old hockey shoes worn flat) and Jade had a wanky hand, but to give her credit still played very well. Harriet got a green card for someone else saying something, not really sure what it was for, but for her efforts, Harriet received DoD.
Some more great play and generally we managed to close down any runs through to our D, including their skilful player in the mid. Through reasons, or no reasons, the opposition had a run of short corners, which we defended well including a great save from Liz off the line.
Harriet got taken out by the goalie at one point and Maddy got a lovely goal in amongst some play making it 3-0. Just before the end another set of pretty passing play working up the field landed with Lola one more time where she did her Lola special, whacked it in the goal for a 4-0 win, and, well done, a man of the match too!
This puts us in great stead for our cup game v Purley L1s in two weeks. Well done ladies.
