Having just managed to dry off from an extremely wet training session on Thursday, we were ready and raring to go against a strong OGs side.
After a strong start from both teams, our defence was challenged with a strong press from the opposition, which led to a conceded goal despite the brilliant initial save from Liz.
Despite the early goal, the team kept their heads held high and didn’t give up. Our attackers were fed lovely balls in from Lilly, Kat, and Jade; however, we just couldn’t finish it off in the D. The first half consisted of the defence constantly battling and denying several attempts on goal, whilst the forwards, Kate, Harry, and Emily, constantly applied pressure when OGs had possession of the ball in their own half. Half-time arrived, and we were 2-0 down.
Fuelled by sweets, we got back out to try and turn things around. The second half began, and we were back ready to shift the momentum onto our side. Some bits of play were flowing from sixteens taken by Naomi and Lottie, with Jade and Kat receiving them out wide and driving down the wing to play the ball back to the forwards, Harry, Kate, Lola, and Emily. However, then came the opposition attacking our goal and capitalising on fouls towards them given by the umpires, which led to their 3rd and 4th goals. A short while later, and despite the hangover, Lilly scored a consolation goal with a powerful strike straight into the back of the goal, bringing the score to 4-1.
Heading into the latter part of the match, OGs kept battling, and our defence was hard at work as Sienna made a vital save off the line. Despite the huge amount of effort from our team to prevent more home team goals, the match ended on a sour note with another goal to the opposition, ending with a final score of 5-1.
Whilst an immediate match summary was provided by Mon, the use of language was such that it has not been possible to include! However, to paraphrase, "hockey is such a silly game!" Or words to that effect!
