Match report Chertsey 1 v Reigate 3 - On a blustery, windy day, and with no training during the week, captain Kat was determined to get the team sharp with an early warm-up. The game itself was a classic tale of two halves.
Reigate came out strong, testing Chertsey's defense early and unfortunately Monique received an injury within the first five minutes. But Chertsey weathered the pressure and began creating chances of their own. New Lily showed strength and determination on her debut run out from the first whistle, holding her own and running her socks off.
Reigate pushed hard, with a few cheeky elbows thrown Harry’s way, but Chertsey stood firm, and Hayley pulled off a couple of strong saves to keep things level. At the break, it remained 0-0.
After a motivating team talk, the message was clear: keep doing what we're doing and just convert a chance. And that’s exactly what Chertsey did. A tired Reigate struggled to keep up as Lucy struck twice as soon as she came on the pitch. The first a brilliant deflection from Lily’s fast ball into the D, the second another clinical finish with a deflection over the goal keeper from a great ball in by Lola.
Despite a few scrappy moments, including Brian green-carding his own daughter Maddie for reasons unknown, and Reigate flooring Lily in frustration, the team held firm. Reigate's goal keeper made a number of saves from Chertsey's fast balls in and Reigate were also handed a green card late on, but by then Chertsey were in control.
The final whistle blew with Chertsey 2-0 up – a well-earned win, great team performance, and strong all-round effort.
Thanks to Brian and Stuart for umpiring!
MOM: Lily for her tireless work and calm distributions in the middle, and Lucy for her two quickfire goals.
DOD: Maddie for earning a green card from her own dad!
